Dr. William Payne

Dr. William D. Payne grew up and lived most of his life in the Willamette Valley. He graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University Dental School in 1989. Over the last 25 plus years, Dr. Payne was the owner and operator of a successful dental practice in Salem, OR focusing on cosmetic and family dentistry.

Dr. Payne’s passion for continual learning led to training in full mouth reconstructions, Invisalign, esthetics, sleep apnea treatments, periodontal laser therapy (LANAP) and TMD solutions. He also spends time doing volunteer dentistry at the Creston Children’s Dental Clinic.

Looking for a lifestyle change, Dr. Payne sold his Salem practice in December 2015 and moved his wife, two college aged kids and a middle schooler to the Columbia River Gorge to be closer to the activities he and his family love. Kiteboarding, stand up paddle, skiing and hiking are just a few of the fun things that his family enjoys. Ask him about his families 50 pound tortoise “Bowser”!

Dr. Payne appreciates collaborating with the great doctors and team at Hood River Dental. He is happy to be providing his years of experience of quality, comfortable dental treatments to the community of Hood River.

The Dental services are great, however their billing policies are the worst I've seen, I have been overcharged several times without refund until I bring it to their attention, and we went 18 months with an insurance issue due to job change and they didn't inform me until it was too late and had to go through formal review with the insurance company to have the service eventually partially covered. Sasha was very attentive to my dental care, ensuring I had solid advice for ensuring I maintained my dental health. Looking back, I'm also impressed with Doctor Haynie's enthusiasm for dental and patient care. He was always excited to share his techniques, enthusiastic to explain why a particular procedure was so exciting, and generally made going to the dentist fun.

My current dental office assumed that, being from a small town, I'd never experienced digital charting, digital x-rays, panoramic x-rays, or in-house and same-day crown modeling and creation. I don't normally seek out Dentists, (which of course is why I found myself in Dr. Paynes chair)I had a nightmarish dental experience as a young teen which left a pronounced scar on my face. Dr Payne and his AMAZING dental assistant "Rico" performed dental magic on me which left me in complete awe of Hood River Dental. If you don't go to Hood River Dental for each and every one of yours and your family's dental needs you will get inferior treatment and quality. Ok that was obviously mean to the other HR Dentists, but you will definately not get the dynamic duo of Rico and Dr. Payne they are professionals in every sense of the word.
